The biggest challenge we face in handling BIM data and presenting the data to our stakeholders is to keep the data representatation as simple as possible. Only then we can receive high quality feedback from our stakeholders.
In 2017, one of our clients asked us if we could provide wall elevation drawings of 80 rooms in his building. He wanted to verify that sockets and other outlets were in place. We decided not to provide him the drawings.
Instead, we generated 80 360-degree images and created a webservice in which the 80 rooms were defined, together with the 80 spherical images. Our client could check each room, look around and even leave comments on the image. We then sent our client an e-mail with login information.
Within a few days, our client had checked all the rooms and left 240 comments. Each of these comments were exactly positioned, making it a breeze for us to process them, and mark them as such. Our webservice became a true commenting system and logging system for the building design.
