Reality is made as realistic as possible in the 3D Virtual Reality tool/game in which the user can adjust the levee design by selecting different options.
An option, for example, is the overtopping discharge which determines the height of the levee. A more fundamental option is whether the levee is improved on the inner or outer side of the levee. In VR-Dijken the differentce in impact of this choice on the environment is directly visable, because the improved levee is projected in it's surrounding.
The tool is designed for non-technical stakeholders, like the ecologist, landscape architect, archaeologist e.d. and of course the civilians. By designing the levee by themself one could increase it's understanding of the considerations made for a levee improvement. And one could make suggestions for the best integration into the environment.
